Our Story

Our story starts in nature

We have never been more disconnected from nature than we are now. This combined with often busy and stressful lives is having a huge impact on our health and the health of our planet.

We Need More Nature In Our Lives

Botany Way Scapes is here to help you reconnect to nature through the art of aquascaping by supplying quality products, providing expert advice and sharing creative inspiration.

Whether you are just starting out or your a long time hobbyist we want to support you in creating aquascapes that fit your lifestyle and make it easy to bring these living pieces of art into your life.

We're hobbyists too, so we know how frustrating it can be when you invest time and money into products and supplies that don’t get you the results you are seeking. We carefully select all the ranges we stock from brands that we trust and use in our own aquariums to ensure you get the best possible results.

“Learn From Nature, Create Nature” - Takashi Amano

Where it all began

Growing up in New Zealand I was surrounded by nature, my childhood was living close to the beach, fishing with friends, exploring the natural world around me and just enjoying the simple life.

Long story short, I found myself living on the 32nd story of an inner-city apartment in Melbourne Australia where nature was no longer on my doorstep. I soon realised the impact that the absence of nature, working long hours and a busy city life was having. I knew something had to change, slowly our apartment began to fill with plants,  terrariums and of course an aquascape.

While I had kept aquariums as a child my hobby had now evolved into an art form of creating beautiful living ecosystems and I was hooked. What surprised me were the unexpected ‘side effects’ of creating and maintaining these living nature aquariums. Not only were they relaxing to look at (why you’ll often find them in the waiting rooms of doctors and dentists) but maintaining them is also a great mindfulness practice.

I created Botany Way Scapes to support the growth the aquascaping hobby in Australia and help more people invite nature into their lives.

Happy Scaping,
Sam
